Custom Dentures and Partial Dentures
Dentures are used to replace missing teeth and soft tissue structures. Dentures are removable and are constructed to closely resemble natural tissue using materials that make them very durable.
What Types of Dentures Are There?
There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. Both types of dentures are used to support facial tissues and enhance your smile. Complete dentures restore tooth structure when all of the teeth are missing or removed. By working with your dentist to select the shape, size and shade of these teeth you can create a beautiful new smile. Implants can be used to stabilize a complete denture, and these dentures are made similarly to regular dentures.
Partial dentures are used when only some teeth are missing and some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures help maintain proper spacing of the remaining teeth and can also prevent these teeth from shifting.
Getting dentures is usually done over multiple appointments and may take several weeks. At one of the early appointments diagnostic impressions are taken and used by the laboratory to create your custom dentures. Once the denture is returned from the laboratory, appointments are scheduled for fittings and adjustment. At these appointments your dentist will check for color, shape and the most comfortable fit.
Following each visit with your Turtle Creek Dental Associates dentist in Dallas, Texas, you’ll receive instructions on how to best care for your new custom dentures at home. Remember regular dental visits combined with good eating habits and oral hygiene help lengthen the life of your dentures. Care should be taken when eating as certain foods can cause damage. It is typical to notice changes in saliva and there may be possible soreness until your tissue is used to the denture.
Turtle Creek Dental Associates can also provide dental implants as an alternative to dentures.
